Mormon Church

What is the Mormon Church? How is it different from other churches?

christus jesus christ mormonThe Mormon Church, officially The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is the restored Church of Christ. When Christ set up His Church among His apostles and disciples while He was upon the earth, it had certain truths within it that were lost in the years following the death of His apostles. These truths were restored in 1830, when Christ revealed the fullness of His gospel to Joseph Smith and it was organized again upon the earth.

Many people believe Mormons are not Christian, despite the fact that the Church bears His name. There are many misconceptions about what Mormons believe, but the following articles will explain further some of the beliefs of the Mormon Church.

The Book of Mormon – Part of the Restoration was bringing to light this ancient record of a Christian people. With the Bible, this book stands as a witness of Christ and His gospel.

Jesus Christ – Mormons revere and worship Jesus Christ as the Savior and Redeemer of the world. Without Him, none of us could be saved.

Mormon History – The history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is full of persecution as well as perseverance.

Mormon Missionaries – Missionary work is very important in the Church. A large amount of young men, young women, and senior couples go all over the world to preach the gospel and to provide service.

Mormon Temples – No buildings are more holy than temples, where sacred and essential ordinances are performed.

  • Mormon Baptism for the Dead – Mormon youth can participate in doing the work of baptism for the dead for those who died without the opportunity to be baptized in this life.

Other Mormon Scriptures – The Mormon canon consists of the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price.

Plan of Salvation – God has a plan for each of us. He wants us to find happiness in this life and return to Him.

Prophets – There are still prophets today who give us guidance and revelation from our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

The Restoration – God, the Father, and His Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to Joseph Smith. This was the first of many visions Joseph received through which the Lord restored His Church.

Young Men – The Church has an organization for young men, to teach them basic principles not only of religion, but also of work, of education, and of learning to live within and contribute to society.

Young Women – Likewise, young women are taught religious and practical principles to help them progress toward adulthood and to learn to work and serve.
